Chuck Donovan Receives Significant Endorsement from Bob Barr

ATLANTA, GA – August 16, 2010 – Former U.S. Congressman and 2008 Presidential candidate Bob Barr today announced his endorsement of Libertarian Chuck Donovan running for U.S. Senate. The Donovan for Senate campaign is proud to receive such an endorsement. Bob Barr is well known figure in third party politics ever since he left the Republican Party in 2006 to join the Libertarian Party.

“Both our basic liberties and prosperity are increasingly at risk because of policies implemented by both of the two major monopoly parties.” said Barr. “Instead of giving us free markets, Washington puts taxpayers on the hook for bailouts. Instead of reforming crippling entitlements, Washington expands them.”

“There is not only a budget deficit in Washington, but also a severe deficit of leadership, and unless we start electing people like Chuck Donovan, our Constitution and Bill of Rights will become nothing more than footnotes in history.”

Chuck responded, “I have had the great fortune to get to know Bob personally. I am proud to know him, and even prouder to receive his endorsement. Bob is well known as a tenacious and uncompromising defender of fiscal responsibility, civil liberties, and constitutional government. To be acknowledged by him this way is a confirmation that our campaign is set upon solid principles. It is a meaningful and welcome addition of credibility to this campaign.”

Donovan is promoting fiscal responsibility as the cornerstone of his campaign. “I believe that our national debt is the biggest concern for our country,” says Donovan. “Based on the spending record of those currently in Washington, and the continued deficit spending that the Republican and Democratic candidates support, Georgians who call themselves fiscally responsible really cannot honestly give their vote to either of the other candidates.”

The Donovan Campaign has been reaching out to disenchanted voters on both sides, who understand the mainstream parties are not representing their interests. Now they have a viable choice for representation in the U.S. Senate.

Dear Friend of Liberty,

The Federal Election Commission is harassing and maybe even threatening to silence the Campaign for Liberty.

This is an attack on free speech and an attack on another organization working to promote freedom.

The Campaign for Liberty was founded by Congressman Ron Paul after his 2008 presidential campaign as a way to continue organizing the grass roots activists who helped that campaign. Although Congressman Ron Paul holds office as a Republican, he’s often ostracized by his party’s leadership for holding libertarian views. He’s also a Lifetime member of the Libertarian Party, and he was the 1988 Libertarian Party presidential nominee.

I’m glad when Ron Paul is willing to ignore party allegiance to fight for principles of liberty.

I personally don’t think our freedoms will be secure until government is seen as the problem, and a majority of Republicans, Democrats, Libertarians and others are fighting over the best and fastest ways to dismantle government programs. So I’m not going to criticize or get in the way of people working through other organizations, when they’re working towards the same principles of liberty and limited government that the Libertarian Party supports.

And I sure don’t appreciate the federal government using its enormous power to silence dissent. I don’t know if the Campaign for Liberty broke any laws. Campaign finance rules are incredibly complicated, and they usually benefit incumbents. I’m against most of those unconstitutional laws in the first place. According to the Libertarian Party platform section 3.6: “We call for an end to any tax-financed subsidies to candidates or parties and the repeal of all laws which restrict voluntary financing of election campaigns.”

According to the Campaign for Liberty’s website: “Our mission is to promote and defend the great American principles of individual liberty, constitutional government, sound money, free markets, and a noninterventionist foreign policy, by means of educational and political activity.”

Additionally, their website states they neither support nor oppose candidates for public office, but they do put candidates on record and report their positions.

Who knows, maybe the Campaign for Liberty will be out there exposing hypocritical Democrats who support the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and hypocritical Republicans who vote for TARP bailouts and Medicare expansions. Perhaps some of our over 170 Libertarian Party candidates for U.S. Representative will benefit.

I sure hope so.

BURNET, Texas - R. Lee Wrights, a former Libertarian Party national vice chair and the editor and co-founder of Liberty for All online magazine, announced today he is forming an exploratory committee to lay the groundwork for a possible bid to seek the Libertarian nomination for president in 2012.

“The Libertarian Party faces a critical test in 2012 and I want to make sure that we’re up to the challenge,” Wrights said. “The Libertarian message in 2012 must be loud and clear - Stop the Wars! Stop the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, stop the war on drugs and alternative lifestyles, stop the war on civil liberties.”

Wrights said that it’s time to stop supporting politicians, regardless of party, who don’t even come close to fulfilling their campaign promises.

“President Obama was elected on a platform of ending the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan,” Wrights said. “Instead of supporting the troops by bringing them home, he has sent thousands more young men and women to die needlessly to prop up a corrupt government in Afghanistan.”

“Now he’s wavering on his promise to bring the troops home by July 2011,” Wrights said. “He calls the war in Afghanistan a ‘war of necessity.’ It is no such thing. It is unnecessary, irresponsible and a dishonor to the founding principles of our republic.”

The president has also reneged on his promise to reverse the trampling of civil liberties which began under the Bush Administration. “He’s done just the opposite,” Wrights said. “He’s expanded federal power to invade our privacy and curtail our rights. He might not call it the ‘war on terror,’ but President Obama still uses 9/11 as an excuse to justify voiding the Bill of Rights.”

Wrights said he is most appalled by the way the president turns every issue he faces into a war by labeling anyone who opposes him as an enemy.

“Not content with just warring with the Republicans in Congress, the president has turned the Gulf oil spill into a war on oil companies. He’s used the financial crisis, which was largely caused by government regulation, interference and incompetence, to continue waging war on banks and financial institutions,” Wrights said.

“Even after his major victory in ramming through a massive health care bill which imposes federal government bureaucrats into our most intimate and personal health care decisions, President Obama continues to wage war on insurance companies and health care providers,” Wrights said. “Now, he’s opened a new front in Arizona over that state’s attempt to deal with an illegal immigrant situation his administration has failed to address.”

“Where will it end?” Wrights asked. “Is anything or anyone safe from being labeled an ‘enemy of the state’ and incurring the wrath of the federal government’s war-making power?”

Wrights pledged that 10 percent of all donations to his campaign will be given to the Libertarian Party for ballot access. “Whoever is the 2012 Libertarian nominee for president, we must take our message to all 50 states and our message must be clear and unequivocal - Stop the Wars,” Wrights says.

Libertarians: The Secret Strength of the Immigration Reform Movement

While the immigration debate takes place between the left and the right, the perspective of libertarians is often left out of the debate.

There are generally two well-known perspectives on the immigration issue: One is that the United States needs to reform federal immigration policy, and the other we should enforce current federal immigration policy. What’s rarely heard, or taken seriously, is a different perspective altogether that actually questions the most fundamental arguments behind immigration policy—a perspective that could change the way Americans and American politicians think about the issue.

More and more, immigration is becoming a major issue among libertarians, who believe in smaller government and more personal freedom. Traditionally, libertarians are more open to immigration than both conservatives and liberals, explains Daniel Griswold, director of the Center for Trade Policy Studies at the libertarian research center the Cato Institute in Washington, D.C. “Most libertarians are sympathetic toward immigration. They see human migration as a personal freedom. That’s in contrast to conservatives and Republicans."

Although progressives are open to reforming immigration law, some on the left have concerns about wage depression and the impact on labor unions, says Griswold. Beyond that, it seems to be a much broader philosophical argument about the power of the government.

“Libertarians are more inclined to ask the question, ‘Why should it be illegal?’ Conservatives are more likely to accept the term ‘illegal’ and to want to enforce it,” says Griswold. “What crime have these people committed other than trying to improve their human condition? Libertarians believe in rule of law, but they support laws that are consistent with individual liberty. Our immigration law doesn’t meet that standard.”

But there is a clear-cut conflict among libertarians about how to deal with immigration law. Many want open borders, but not until we can privatize education and health care. If there’s a division among libertarians,

John Monds and crew qualify

Today, I had the opportunity to fellowship with many fellow Libertarians, as our statewide slate of candidates (our FIRST in the history of the Libertarian Party of Georgia) qualified officially to appear on the November General Election ballot.

In addition to adding another story for the Libertarian Party of Georgia history books, we also made Georgia history today, as gubernatorial candidate John Monds, the largest vote getter in the history of the Libertarian Party in his stellar showing in 2008's Public Service Commission (District 1) race, qualified to become the first African-American to appear on a General Election ballot for Governor in the state of Georgia.

John was not the only one to leave his mark on Georgia history today, as Dr. Rhonda Martini became the first female candidate for Lieutenant Governor to appear on the General Election ballot.

Today is the final day of a VERY busy month for the Libertarian Party of Georgia, as we have traveled far and wide to share the message of liberty at outreach events from Villa Rica to Augusta and Athens to Albany... And that's just the outreach we've done for the party. Our candidates are criss-crossing the state, meeting with voters and sharing with them our message of individual liberty.

Libertarian party of New York needs help getting its candidates on the ballot this year

Dear Friend of Liberty,

The Libertarian Party of New York needs our help getting its candidates on the ballot this year.

Please make a generous donation today.

The New York LP needs 15,000 valid signatures in a petition drive starting July 6 and ending August 17. That's just 6 weeks.

While we expect many New Yorkers to volunteer and for the state party to spend most of their own funds on this drive, they simply cannot make this happen without financial help from the National Libertarian Party.

The Libertarian National Committee (LNC) recently approved spending $25,000 to aid New York's petition drive. We haven't spent that money, but we've authorized it. Authorizing those funds was a very difficult decision for the LNC. Our resources are limited, and deciding how to fairly and optimally allocate funds is not easy.

Your donation to the Libertarian Party will help ease the strain.

So far this year, the national LP has helped four other states with petition drives.

We spent $15,000 to get the Libertarian Party of New Mexico back on the ballot for four years.

We spent $35,000 to assist the LP Illinois petition drive (signatures were submitted and we're awaiting confirmation of success).

We recently sent $6,000 to the Pennsylvania LP to assist with their petition drive.

We approved $21,000 for the LP Nebraska petition drive, which is currently underway.

New York is the only remaining state that is a priority for ballot access this year.

The New York LP has 17 candidates trying to get on the ballot.

That includes both U.S. Senate seats and Warren Redlich for Governor. Warren Redlich was Ron Paul's attorney in New York in 2008, helping make sure Ron Paul was on the ballot for the presidential primary.

According to his website, Mr. Redlich wants to eliminate departments and functions to save $5 billion. Mr. Redlich has been a strong supporter of drug policy reform for more than a decade. He has worked with groups such as ReconsiDer, Law Enforcement Against Prohibition, and the Drug Policy Alliance.

Ballot access petition drives cost money, but they also generate immediate benefits. Petitioners speak directly to voters one-on-one about the Libertarian Party. When people sign a Libertarian petition, it "breaks the ice" and helps them feel a small connection to our party, so many of them will feel comfortable voting for our candidates on Election Day.

The LP is famous for being the most successful third party at gaining ballot access. In order to be most effective, we need to be a nationwide political party.

New York is the third most populous state in America. The New York LP has a great slate of candidates.

Libertarian National Convention

      Just got back from the national convention. I had a blast. I did get myself elected to th LNC. I was not sure if I would get elected or not. Some big guns were running for the at - large which made me think it would be hard to win at the region level.The one thing I did was buy some label stickers (4 inch round) and had everyone wear one that I knew was going to vote for me .It made a difference. I won the election . I actually believe one of our problems in the party is not knowing how to campaign. One of my goals is to get more campaign stuff into the hands of activist at a low cost or at a zero cost.I believe we should make t.v. commercial at the national level so the states can run them. I will say this again it only cost about 15.00$ to run an ad on CNN in Atlanta.
  We had our first LNC meeting on Monday. I was happy with how the meeting went. It was kind of neat to be seated beside Nolan and Ruwart.One day when our party takes off these are the are the type of people who will be our Jefferson ,Adams(Sam) and Franklins when they write the history of the party I was even happy with Root. His knowledge on buying ads on radio was already being used to help buying ads in Calf. to fight Prop 14.
Also I would like to add I met some great people while I was at the convention.I would like to point I really enjoyed meeting the Mississippi people. These are the perfect people the party is looking for.fired up  and ready to do something and not looking hear a bunch of Bull$hit just get out of their way so they can make things happen at the state level.

I am back On the Georgia Ex Com

Tonight is the first night of the new Georgia ex. com. It is the first time in about two years that I have been on the ex. com. I am looking forward to it. Georgia has got some great candidates this year from top to bottom. We will be running the first African American for Governor ever in the state of Georgia. The Great thing was the party never talked about his color we talked about his love for freedom and liberty .
I have also paid for my hotel for the St. Louis National Convention. Has any thought abpout who they are supporting for LNC chair. It looks like I am going with George Phillies . I supported him early for the 2008 presidential campaign until I got wrapped him in the Bob Barr campaign. If I had to do it over I would stick with George Phillies this time around. I did vote for Steve Kubby for vice. who of course lost to Wayne Root in the end.
I hope to start posting a little more often.

John Monds Libertarian for Governor

ATLANTA – John Monds will be announcing his intention to seek the Libertarian Party of Georgia’s nomination for Governor with a press conference at the Capitol in Atlanta with family, close friends and supporters by his side Wednesday, March 25^th at 4:00pm.

During his campaign for Public Service Commission (District 1) in 2008, Monds became the first Libertarian to break one million votes in the United States.

Monds and the Libertarian Party believe Georgians are ready for something new and different. “It’s difficult to tell the difference between Republicans and Democrats; both want to raise your taxes, waste your money and increase the size and scope of state government,” said Monds.

“We must be competitive in the 21^st Century. We must have meaningful tax reforms that allow businesses and individuals to thrive, a transportation system that eases congestion without raising taxes, an education system that gives more choices and returns control to the local level and we need to stop wasting the taxpayer’s money with mandated long term incarceration of individuals for non-violent victimless infractions of the law”

John Monds, 44, is a graduate of Morehouse College with a degree in Banking and Finance, President of the Grady County NAACP and currently serves on the Grady County Planning Commission.

He resides in Cairo with his wife, Dr. Kathaleena Edward Monds, and four children, Akintunde, Cazembe, Halima and Malik.
