Chairman of Libertarian party announces bid for city council seat

It's a crowded race for the two at-large seats on the Beaumont City Council, and in his bid for the seat, Dean Tucker, 55, plans to bring what he terms "fresh ideas" to the council.

Tucker was one of three people who filed for to run in the eight-person heat.

His interests include improving the city's health care, economic development through partnerships and revisiting the city's smoking ordinance and putting the issue to the voters. In 2005, he lost his bid for the Ward 1 seat to incumbent Lulu Smith.

Tucker is chairman of the Jefferson County Libertarian Party.

The other candidates vying for the two at-large seats include Charlie Foxworth, a real estate broker; W.L. Pate Jr., Pate Resources Group Inc. president; Gethrel "Get" Williams-Wright, a business agent; Dolores Davis, a caregiver; the Rev. Ernest Bruce Hendrix, pastor at First Union Baptist Church; Allen Lee, home improvement contractor; and Leroy Lewis III, who withdrew from the mayoral race to make a bid for the at-large seat.
