Libertarians at work

This stuff is awesome.I love it when I see a local Libertarian party do this kind of stuff. This was in the San Dieago Business Journal.

National City Tax Vote Back on the Ballot

National City voters — come November 2008 — will get another chance to say yea or nay to the sales tax hike passed in June.

The campaign to get the issue back on the ballot was led by the San Diego County Libertarian Party, which circulated petitions and gathered enough valid signatures to qualify, according to the San Diego County registrar of voters.

Local Libertarian Party Chairman Edward Teyssier said that similar efforts might be waged in other local cities “where taxes are raised without full disclosure and proper debate.”

Opponents of the city’s 1 percent increase to 8.75 percent have called it “ill advised,” due to the relatively low-income population. But Mayor Ron Morrison, in an earlier interview, said that the tax hike is designed to provide basic services, adding, “Who more needs public services than those who are low income?”
